AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Sarah DeVries of Calvin University headlines the 2019 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
DeVries, a nursing major, has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III volleyball. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native holds a 3.82 cumulative GPA at Calvin. A first-team selection this year to the Division III Academic All-America Team, DeVries is now a two-time Academic All-America® honoree.
DeVries was named the 2019 Team Snap/AVCA Division III National Player of the Year last month, receiving the award for the second-consecutive season; DeVries is the fifth individual to be named National Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. A three-time AVCA All-American, DeVries was named the 2019 MIAA Most Valuable Player in November.
Trine junior Jacqueline Baughman was named to the Second Team, and becomes the first Trine University women's volleyball player to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team.
Baughman, an Exercise Science Pre Physical Therapy major, has exhibited excellence in the classroom by accumulating a 4.00 GPA. Baughman is one of 12 of this year's Academic All-Americans that finished with a 4.00 GPA.
On the court, Baughman had a breakout season for the Thunder. Baughman passed the career milestone of 1,000 career assists in the latter portion of the season becoming just the 12th Thunder volleyball athlete to do so.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
