The Adrian College women’s tennis team had three matches last week, going 1-2 on the week and losing both matches to MIAA opponents. The Bulldogs lost to Trine 7-2 on Tuesday, with Mackenna Crowley and Julia Maltbie getting a win at two doubles and Makayla Jorgensen picking up AC’s other point at five singles. The Black and Gold bounced back with a 6-3 victory over St. Francis (Ind.) the next day, with two doubles wins and four singles wins, with three of those not allowing their opponent to win more than two total games. The final match of the week was a 9-0 loss to Saint Mary’s on Sunday.
Lauren Solano and Madeline Samra scored the singles points and Saige Jost and Namara Swillum pulled out a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles as Albion took a 6-3 loss to Alma last Monday.
The women's tennis team had its eight-game win streak snapped last week as it dropped two conference games to Calvin and Kalamazoo. They were Alma's first losses since February 16 against Cornerstone and the first time the Scots have been swept in the spring season.
Calvin fell to Hope April 2, 9-0, and defeated Alma April 3, 9-0, and Albion April 6, 9-0.
The Flying Dutch went 3-2 on the week, including MIAA victories on consecutive days against Kalamazoo and Calvin to remain undefeated in league play. The Flying Dutch then faced three nationally-ranked opponents last weekend at the Midwest Invitational in Wisconsin, defeating UW-Whitewater but losing one-point matches to both Washington-St. Louis and Augsburg.
Kalamazoo ended the week with a 1-1 record in a week that featured a 9-0 sweep of Alma. Caroline Norton was the lone Hornet that was victorious in both singles matches. Norton was also 1-1 in doubles matches and earned MIAA Player of the Week honors. Maddy Winarski and Bella Russo each won 6-0, 6-0 against Alma. The Hornets will continue MIAA play this week with matches against Olivet and Albion.
The Olivet College women's tennis team fell to Saint Mary's in its only match last week.
The Belles won a 9-0 home conference match against Adrian on Saturday before splitting non-conference matches with a win over St. Norbert and a loss against North Central.
