Top-seeded Hope swept all three doubles points and then tallied victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to defeat Calvin Wednesday in semifinal action, 5-0. With the win, Hope will host the MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament championship match Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m.
Hope's Amanda Bandrowski was a two-time winner, with victories at No. 1 doubles with partner Claire Hallock, 8-4. Bandrowski then sealed the Hope victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Calvin's Madeline Brouwer. Bailey Chorney also won twice for Hope, winning at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Kalamazoo 5, Saint Mary's 2
Kalamazoo won two doubles matches and three singles matches on the way to a 5-2 victory over Saint Mary's Wednesday. After a straight-set win at No. 4 singles put the Hornets up 3-1, Kalamazoo needed two third-set wins after 1, 2, and 3 singles all went to third-set tiebreakers.
In those top matches, Kalamazoo's Maddy Winarski prevailed first with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Saint Mary's Megan Davy. Saint Mary's Lilly Chamberlin gained a point for the Belles with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. With the match on the line, Kalamazoo's Laura Hanselman outlasted Saint Mary's Monica Davy 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 at No. 1 singles to seal the Hornets' win.
