Around the MIAA

RV Albion

Sophomore Samantha Swingewood (Carmel, Ind.) improved her Albion standard in the 200-yard butterfly at the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational on Sunday. Swingewood achieved the winning time in the event, 2:06.65, to beat her previous record of 2:07.72. Swingewood also achieved a fourth place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:38.00)… Senior Rileigh Eding (Hamilton, Mich.) was the winner of the 50 freestyle (23.83 in the preliminary, 23.89 in the final), the runner-up in the 100 backstroke (57.50), and part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished third.


Alma

The Scots earned a victory over Olivet, 180-76, Nov. 24. Senior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich.) earned victories in both the 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle, while also adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich.) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.08. Sophomore Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich.) won the 100 yard and 200-yard breaststroke events.


No. 20 Calvin

Calvin picked up a 159-144 win over rival Hope Saturday afternoon. Calvin clinched the meet by posting a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The Knights had first and second in the 100 backstroke with Hannah Chao taking first and Abbey Wellman taking second. Hannabeth Magnussen won the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Calvin also took the top three spots in the 100 butterfly with Jenna Oezer taking first place.


Hope

A close rivalry dual that came down to the final race, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Hope came up short in a 159-140 setback at Calvin Saturday. Despite the setback, Hope saw top performances throughout the meet. Junior Emma Schaefer (DeWitt, Mich.) and freshman Tarah Lang (Marshall, Mich.) each won three individual events; Lang won the 200 free (1:58.10), 100 free (54.26), and 500 free (5:21.53), while Schaefer was a winner in the 100 breast (1:08.00), 200 breast (2:29.98), and 200 IM (2:14.37). Sophomore Emma Engle (Kalamazoo, Mich.) won the 1000 free by more than 10 seconds, touching first in 11:01.32. 


Kalamazoo

Did not compete.


Olivet

Olivet fell to Alma, 180-76, in a MIAA dual meet Nov. 23 at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. Sophomore Kayla Eichaker took first in both butterfly events, finishing the 100 in 1:03.37 and 200 in 2:28.42. Senior Amelia Tomalka won the 100 free (1:00.88). Senior Abbie Slater captured the one-meter diving with 179.80 points and three-meter diving with 138.60 points.
