Around the MIAA

Adrian (7-5-1, 4-1-0)

The Adrian College women’s soccer team only had one match last week, falling to No. 17 Hope in a matchup of the conference’s last two unbeaten teams. The Flying Dutch shutout the Bulldogs 1-0, with goalkeeper Ayverie Giller making eight saves in the loss.


Albion (7-6-1, 4-1-0)

Forward Samantha LaRocca (Clinton Township, Mich./Regina) scored all three goals for Albion last week. She has eight goals and 18 points for the season, the most she has produced in a season at the collegiate level…Goalkeeper Megan Bricely (Troy, Mich./Marian) collected four saves in each of the matches last week and she earned her third shutout in MIAA play with the 2-0 result vs. Olivet.

Alma (2-10-1, 0-4-1)

Freshman forward Meghan Pfile (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) scored for the second straight game as the Scots lost to Olivet Tuesday (Oct. 9), 3-1. Sophomore goalie Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) made five saves for Alma. The game was played in a constant rainstorm and because of unplayable field conditions the match had to be stopped with just under six minutes remaining. The Scots have two conference games coming up, one on the road against Calvin on Tuesday (Oct. 16) and one at home versus Kalamazoo on Saturday (Oct. 20).


Calvin (7-4-2, 2-2-1)

Calvin split a pair of conference games last week, defeating Saint Mary's 2-0 on Thursday and falling at Trine on Saturday to fall into sixth place in the conference standings. Calvin will host Alma on Wednesday and travel to Albion on Saturday.


No. 18/11 Hope (10-1-2, 4-0-1)

The Hope College women's soccer team moved back atop the MIAA standings with a 4-0 victory at home vs. Trine and a 1-0 victory at Adrian. Senior Rylie Dalton of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) scored the game-winner against Adrian. Junior Abbey Przekop of Novi, Michigan (Mercy HS) netted two goals vs. Trine.


Kalamazoo (8-5-1, 3-3-0)

The Kalamazoo College women’s soccer team won both matches this week. The Hornets began the week with a 3-1 win against Albion before traveling to Saint Mary’s and knocking off the Belles, 5-0. Kalamazoo had seven goal scorers in an eight goal week with Libby Munoz leading the way with two. Freshman Kai Ketola found the back of the net in the first match and then picked up two assists over the weekend. Catie Stamper was recognized for her performance this week as she was honored as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.


Olivet (7-5-2, 3-3-0)

The Olivet College women's soccer team split its two MIAA contests last week. In a 3-1 win over Alma, senior Emma Essen scored two goals, and Samantha Torres scored the third goal. Olivet ended the week with a 2-0 setback at Albion.


Saint Mary's (6-9-0, 1-4-0)

The Belles fell to Calvin and Kalamazoo in conference action last week. Rose Stackhouse had three scoring chances in the two contests. Delaney Rohlman tallied 18 saves in goal on the week.


Trine (4-10-1, 1-4-1)

Trine split the week falling to Hope on Wednesday before picking up their first MIAA victory of the season against Calvin on Saturday. The win is the team's first victory against Calvin since joining the MIAA in 2004. Sophomore Courtney Reece (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) scored the winning goal in the contest.
