The Adrian College women’s soccer team posted two shutouts in conference play last week, blanking Calvin 1-0 on Tuesday and Kalamazoo 2-0 on Sunday. The Bulldogs swept the Player of the Week awards this week, with freshman Sarah Brannan winning on defense and sophomore Megan Louwers winning on offense. Adrian currently has the top three point-getters in conference play with junior Caroline Fleming leading the pack with eight and Louwers and freshman McKenna Mahoney tied with seven. The Bulldogs host Hope on Saturday at noon.
The women's soccer team fell to Albion and Saint Mary's last week. Meghan Pfile (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) scored her first career goal against the Belles. Goalkeeper Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) made nine saves against Albion. She is fourth in the MIAA in saves with 62.
On Oct. 2, Calvin lost to Adrian 1-0, for their first MIAA loss of the season. Later in the week on Saturday, Calvin tied 1-1 with Hope; Mackenna Nesky scored for the Knights in the draw.
The Hope College women's soccer team got a second-half goal from senior Hilary Curry of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Calvin Christian) to earn a 1-1 tie at home against Calvin College on Saturday. The Flying Dutch earned a point after bouncing back from a 1-0 non-league loss at No. 23 Wheaton College (Illinois) on Tuesday, October 2.
The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team ended the week with a 1-1 record after a win over Trine (2-0) and a loss at Adrian (2-0). The Hornets got ahead of Trine in the 11th minute when freshman Kai Ketola scored and they did not look back. Libby Munoz collected her eighth goal of the season in the 56th minute to put the game away. Ketola assisted on the goal and ended the match with three points. Kalamazoo's second match at Adrian that was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6 was rescheduled and played the following day. The Hornets surrendered a Bulldog goal in the first minute of the match and were unable to overcome the deficit. Kalamazoo returns to play at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when the Hornets take on Albion at 7 p.m.
The Olivet College women's soccer won two MIAA games last week by identical 1-0 scores. Against Saint Mary's, a goal by Abby Radcliffe in the fifth minute of play stood up for the remainder of the game. Against Trine, Emma Essen scored in the fourth minute of overtime for the only goal. For the week, Samantha Gifford played all 183:30 in goal to lower her season goals against average to 0.99.
The Belles bounced back from a 1-0 loss at Olivet earlier in the week with a 3-1 win over Alma on Sunday. Rose Stackhouse led the Belles with a goal and an assist against Alma while Sophie Bubnar tallied a goal. It is the first MIAA win for the Belles since the 2015 season.
The Thunder finished the week with two tough losses coming to Kalamazoo and Olivet. Freshman Ahdrin Bordner (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Hayes) made her debut against the Comets and came away with five great saves in the contest.
