Three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer student-athletes were recognized for their achievement both on the field and in the classroom Thursday with their selection to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Division III Women's Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Adrian's Caroline Fleming (Jr., F, Grosse Ile, Mich.), Calvin's Kali Mouw (Sr., D, Avon, N.Y.), and Olivet's Emma Essen (Sr., M, Blissfield, Mich.) were voted to the All-District team and are now eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors.
Fleming led Adrian on the field, aiding the Bulldogs in capturing their first-ever MIAA Tournament Championship and NCAA Championship berth thanks to team-highs of nine assists and 31 points. The junior owns a 3.99 grade-point average in athletic training.
Mouw was an Academic All-District® selection in 2017; along with earning academic honors for the second consecutive season, Mouw is also a two-time first-team All-MIAA selection. Mouw boasts a 3.95 grade-point average in kinesiology.
Essen was a first-team All-MIAA selection earlier this year after leading the Comets in both goals (11) and points (24); she becomes the fourth player in four seasons to gather Academic All-District® accolades. Academically, Essen has a 3.83 grade-point average in actuarial sciences and mathematics.
CoSIDA's NCAA Division III District 6 includes Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Members of CoSIDA from the district vote on Academic All-District honors. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
