Around the MIAA
Adrian whipped NAIA-scholarship Lourdes, 35-9, for its first victory in three all-time meetings against the Gray Wolves… the program has its best start under third-year head coach Bill Schindel at 4-1 on the dual-match season…the Bulldogs then went to Ada, Ohio, to compete in the Ohio Northern Invitational where they placed fifth out of 13 schools with 103-1/2 points… Sophomore Devon Pingel led the Bulldogs at ONU with a third-place finish at 184 pounds, followed by senior Dominic Paterra who took fourth at 141, freshman Elijah Sanchez was fifth at 133 and sophomore Noah Nieman went sixth at 149… in addition, freshmen Mateo Diaz (125 pounds), Jordan Scofield (133), Robert Nowik (141) and sophomore Ethan Garcia (157) all placed seventh for Adrian, which also saw freshmen Collin Lewis (285) end up seventh and Derick Duvall (165), eighth, for a total of 10 placers…last year, Adrian was 10th out of 13 teams in this event…the Bulldogs wrap up the fall semester with the North Central College Invitational on Saturday.
The Alma College wrestling team traveled to Ada, Ohio Saturday (Dec. 1) and finished 12th at the Polar Bears tournament. Sophomores Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and Joe Vondrasek (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) both earned sixth place in their weight classes. Vondrasek and freshman Dillon Stevenson (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) each won three times on the day.
Did not compete. Will return to action Dec. 8 at North Central Invitational.
