The Bulldogs began the fourth year –third under head coach Bill Schindel – in the modern era of men’s wrestling at Adrian College last weekend by hosting its own Adrian Invitational, which featured nationally-ranked teams Wabash (No. 5) and Mount Union (No. 13)…the host team held its own by placing fifth in the 12-team field, scoring 89 points…that marks a significant improvement from the inaugural event last year when Adrian placed seventh with three fewer teams in the lineup…overall, the Bulldogs had eight placers, led by junior Dylan Steward who captured the 157-pound championship…Steward went 4-0, culminating his day with a major decision, 12-4, over John Carroll's Daniel Novak, who suffered his first loss in five matches, and he got to the championship bout with a pin in the semifinals…in addition, sophomores Judah Caballero, eighth at 125 pounds; Malachi Greene, sixth at 133 pounds; freshman Jordan Scofield, seventh at 133 pounds; senior Dominic Paterra, seventh at 141 pounds; and sophomores Ethan Garcia, eighth at 157 pounds; Bryant Moore, seventh at 174 pounds…in the 2017 AC Bulldogs Invitational, Adrian had six placers…Pingel is a NCAA Division I transfer from Cleveland State…Adrian travels to Alliance, Ohio, on Saturday for the Mount Union Invitational.

Alma started off its season Thursday (Nov. 1) with a 21-16 road dual win at Davenport University. Playing in their first match as a Scot, freshmen Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) and Jacob Ransom (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West), as well as junior Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich./Whitehall) all came out with victories. Cooper and Kuehnlein kept up their strong starts by winning their respective weight class brackets in the Ben McMullen Open at Muskegon Community College Saturday (Nov. 3). Sophomore Joe Vondrasek (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) took second place in his class while freshman Dylan Seaton (Port, Huron, Mich./Port Huron Northern) earned third place.

The Olivet College wrestling team kicked-off its season at the Ben McMullen Open. Donny Mandell and Trevor Piggott took first-place in their respective weight class, while four other Comets placed second. Overall, 11 Olivet wrestlers placed in the top six.

The Trine University wrestling team got its 2018-19 season underway with a pair of events with the Ben McMullen Open hosted by Muskegon Community College in Muskegon, Mich. and the Michigan State University Open in East Lansing, Mich.  Both events were unscored.
