Around the MIAA

Adrian (7-4, 2-3)

The Adrian College women’s lacrosse team stopped its three-game losing streak with a pair of wins last weekend. The Black and Gold defeated Trine 16-6 on Wednesday to stop the streak and get their second MIAA win of the season and then beat Cleary 18-11 on Thursday. Three Bulldogs had 10 or more points on the week, with senior Annie Rice leading the way with 11 (8g, 3a) and freshman Olive Stevens and sophomore Gwyneth Carlson each scoring nine goals and adding one assist for 10 points last week.


Albion (10-3, 5-0)

Albion upped its winning streak to six with victories over Alma and Olivet last week…Marah Ranger and Kierstin Rose scored five goals apiece, a career high for both, in the victory over Olivet. Ranger, Chrystelle Lopez and Carly Schwarz all scored seven goals last week...Alexis Robinson was the goalkeeper for both games; Robinson stopped 54 percent of the shots faced while achieving a 3.00 GAA.

Alma (3-9, 0-6)

The women's lacrosse team fell in two conference games last week, 22-4 to Albion and 17-16 against Trine. Junior Olivia Benoit (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) led the Scots with seven goals against the Thunder for 99 career goals; Beniot can become the fifth player in program history to reach the century mark. Sophomore MacKenzie Chevalier (Fraser, Mich.) put up a career-best four goals in the game, as well.


Calvin (9-4, 4-1)

The Knights defeated Olivet 30-1  and Kalamazoo 18-4 last week to rebound from their first MIAA loss.


Hope (8-3, 3-1)

Kalamazoo (3-9, 1-3)

The Hornets dropped two games this week beginning with a 16-7 home loss to Saint Mary's and finished the week with an 18-4 loss as Calvin. Lilly Baumann led Kalamazoo on the offensive end with four goals on the week. Senior Amanda Moss added three goals. Rachel Madar added eight draw controls to push her season total up to 101, just nine behind the MIAA leader. The Hornets play host to Albion on Tuesday before traveling to Trine for an MIAA contest on Saturday.


Olivet (0-7, 0-4)

The Olivet College women's lacrosse team fell to Calvin and Albion in its two games last week. Senior Sabrina Butler scored all of the Comets' goals.


Saint Mary's (9-5, 5-0)

The Belles earned a 16-7 win at Kalamazoo on Wednesday before defeating Hope 22-8 at home on Saturday. Shannon McCloskey had a game-high four goals to help pace the offense at Kalamazoo. Erin Doyle (100 career ground balls) and Kate Kelly (300 career ground balls) each hit milestones in the win, and Emily Kraker made a career-high 15 saves. Doyle then posted 10 goals and an assist against Hope. Kraker recorded 10-plus saves for the fourth consecutive game in goal as the sophomore stopped 10 shots on goal.


Trine (5-7, 1-3)

The Thunder split the week with MIAA competition. They traveled to Adrian and returned with a tough loss. They then found their offensive firepower on Saturday as they came back from down six to pick up the 17-16 win. Two members of the team finished the game with eight points in the contest. Sophomore Kristin John (South Bend, Ind.) tied her record from earlier this year with eight goals in the contest, while freshman Chloe Vruno (Geneva, Ill.) recorded career highs with five goals and three assists.
