Around the MIAA

Adrian (4-1, 0-0)

The Bulldogs picked up two wins last week to make it three in a row. AC beat Hiram 15-4 at home on Tuesday before a comeback overtime victory against Augustana on Sunday. Senior Annie Rice had a dominant week, totaling eight points in each game. Rice had two goals and six assists against Hiram and took over the second half against Augustana scoring five times and assisting on three, all after halftime. Rice scored the last two goals of regulation, tying the game at 13 with 53 seconds left from the free position to send the game into overtime and set the Bulldogs up for the win. Rice was named the MIAA’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.


Albion (4-3, 0-0)

Carly Schwarz (Clinton Township, Mich.) finished with two goals and one assist for Albion, but the Britons came away with a 21-7 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday. Destiny Okon (Van Nuys, Calif.) also had two goals. Kate Mullins (Royal Oak, Mich.), Darcy Muns (Lake Orion, Mich.), and Abby Sheklow (La Cresenta, Calif.) all produced one goal.

Alma (3-3, 0-0)

Alma lost to Cleary March 24, 20-8. The Scots were led on offense by Olivia Benoit, who had team bests of four goals and one assist. Allie Ray made 22 saves with six ground balls.


Calvin (4-3, 0-0)

The Knights defeated Cazenovia Monday (March 18), 19-7, before a pair of setbacks later in the week to Farmingdale State March 20, 15-12, and Western New England March 22, 15-14.


Hope (4-2, 0-0)

The Hope College women's lacrosse team concluded a three-game trip to Hilton Head, S.C., with a 12-4 victory against Allegheny College (Pa.) and a 12-11 overtime victory against Frostburg State (Md.). Sophomore Carly Pieri (Alto, Mich.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Frostburg State with 18 seconds remaining.

Kalamazoo (1-5, 0-0)

The Hornets lost 18-4 at home to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, March 23. Kalamazoo led 3-2 12:30 into the game before Illinois Wesleyan closed out the half with eight consecutive goals. Rose Bogard led Kalamazoo with two goals, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. The Hornets are in California this week where they are scheduled to play at Chapman on Tuesday, March 26 and at Whittier on Friday, March 29.


Olivet (0-3, 0-0)

The Olivet College women's lacrosse team lost its only game last week, 17-2 on Wednesday night at Heidelberg University.


Saint Mary's (3-4, 0-0)

The Belles split results last week by defeating Franklin 26-0 before falling to Carroll (Wis.) 16-9. Erin Doyle led the way with 15 goals while Kate Kelly tallied seven assists and 22 draw controls. Rachael Leonard caused a team-high eight turnovers on the week.


Trine (4-3, 0-0)

The Thunder split their pair of games during the week. They started off dropping a contest to Hanover in the middle of the week by the score of 10-5. Then on Saturday they found their offense again, cruising to victory over visiting Elmhurst College. Sophomore Kirstin John (South Bend, Ind.) had another record-breaking day in the win finishing with a single-game program record 11 points including seven goals and four assists.
