Saint Mary's Wins First-Ever MIAA Women's Lacrosse Championship

The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team captured their first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse championship Friday, when the Belles outlasted Albion in a battle of unbeaten teams in the season finale for both teams, 14-12.

With the contest tied at 3 seven minutes into the first half, Saint Mary's clipped off five consecutive goals to take a lead the Belles would not relinquish. Kate Kelly led all scorers for Saint Mary's (8-0, 12-5) with six goals while adding team bests of six ground balls, 11 draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

With the victory and the unblemished MIAA record, Saint Mary's will be the top seed in the 2019 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament May 1 & 4. The Belles will host semifinal action Wednesday, May 1; should Saint Mary's advance, they will also host the MIAA Tournament Championship game slated for Saturday, May 4. A complete tournament bracket will be release upon the conclusion of the MIAA regular season Saturday, April 27.
