Saint Mary's lacrosse players Erin Doyle, Kate Kelly, and Rachael Leonard were all named to the Great Lakes Region Second Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), marking the first time in program history multiple Belles were tabbed as All-Region by the organization.
The three players were three of 16 Division III women's lacrosse players to be named to the Great Lakes Region Second Team for the 2019 season. The region is comprised of programs from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and part of Pennsylvania. An additional 16 student-athletes were named to the First Team for the same region. Eight regions are represented with All-Region selections by the IWLCA.
Doyle, a sophomore midfielder from Niskayuna, New York, was the 2019 MIAA Most Valuable Offensive Player. Doyle is among the top ten players Division III women's lacrosse in goals (fifth, 104), points (sixth, 127), and shots per game (fourth, 5.78) among all Division III women's lacrosse players. Doyle is the first player in program history to amass 100 goals in a single season for the Belles.
Kelly, a senior midfielder from Orland Park, Illinois, is listed among the national leaders in ground balls per game (eighth, 5.50), assists per game (48th, 2.28), and draw controls per game (15th, 7.56).
Leonard, a senior defender from Hendersonville, Tennessee, is listed among the 2019 national leaders in caused turnovers per game (20th, 2.94) and ground balls per game (ninth, 5.39). Leonard was second among all defenders in ground balls per game nationally and eighth among defenders in caused turnovers per contest for the 2019 season.
