With a 70-53 victory of Albion Satuday (Feb. 9), the Trine women's basketball team won their third consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title and second outright championship.
The Thunder, currently ranked No.7 nationally by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, are 15-0 with one game remaining in regular season play. Along with an unblemished record against MIAA challengers, Trine has won their last 12 contests.
As the outright MIAA champion, the Thunder will be the top seed in the 2019 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament and will host semifinal and final action Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23. The first round of the MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament is set for Tuesday, Feb. 19; as the top seed, Trine receives a bye into the semifinal round along with second-seed Hope.
With regular season games remaining, the 2019 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament bracket will be announced Saturday, Feb. 16 at the conclusion of the regular season.
Trine's three-peat as MIAA champion marks the sixth time in MIAA history a team has been a three-time consecutive MIAA champion (Calvin, 2011-13; Hope, 2008-10; Hope, 2000-03; Calvin, 1996-99; Alma, 1984-87).
