The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, for the fifth consecutive season, will send more than one team to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, as regular season champion Trine along with MIAA Tournament champion Calvin will compete in the national tournament.
No. 25 Calvin (29-8) will face Milwaukee School of Engineering (33-10) in a first round game Thursday with host Illinois Wesleyan (33-7) set to face Otterbein (24-15) in the other first round game at noon (CST). The regional will be a double-elimination format. Otterbein will face Illinois Wesleyan in the game to follow.
Calvin is making its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship.
No. 19 Trine received an at-large bid and will face off with Maryville (Tenn.) in the opening round of a regional hosted by DePauw; host DePauw will play against Saint Vincent.
Trine is making a 12th consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
