Game #6: Calvin 5, Saint Mary's 3 (Championship game)
Calvin put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the fifth to defeat Saint Mary's, 5-3, for the 2019 MIAA Softball Tournament championship. The tournament title is the first for Calvin since the 1997 season and gives the Knights an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
After Saint Mary's (15-24) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Calvin took the lead in the fourth inning when Kayla Groen hit a three-run home run. The Knights added another run later in the fourth for a two-run lead, 4-2. Saint Mary's answered in the ensuing half inning, when JoAnna Keilman hit an RBI single to score sister and teammate Kelsey Keilman.
Calvin (29-8) responded in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Abi Colon to score Grace Stock.
Calvin's Anna Gernant earned the win, throwing 5.1 innings while striking out eight.
Game #5: Saint Mary's 6, Hope 4
Saint Mary's eliminated Hope and advanced to the MIAA Tournament championship game for the second consecutive year thanks to a six-run sixth inning in their 6-4 win over the Flying Dutch.
After Hope took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first, it wasn't until the sixth inning that either team found the scoring column. In that inning, Saint Mary's connected on eight hits, resulting in six runs; seven of the Belles' hits came before the first out of the half inning.
Hope (24-13) cut their deficit in the seventh inning with a two-run home run and an RBI single, but Saint Mary's pitcher Mandi Hettinger got out of the jam to earn the win. Offensively, Saint Mary's Molly Mirabelli went 3-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Belles.
Game 4: Calvin 7, Saint Mary's 1
In the first matchup of the day between Calvin and Saint Mary's, the Knights made good on 11 hits, including five for extra-base hits, to post a 7-1 win over Saint Mary's to advance to the MIAA Tournament final. Calvin scored three runs in the second inning to set the tone and then added four runs in the seventh inning to put the contest away.
Calvin's Kristen Newman hit a two-run triple to start the Knights in the second, with Hannah Horvath's single scoring Newman on the ensuing at bat. Saint Mary's got a run back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Sydney Swartz, but the Knights put the game away in the seventh with a pair of two-run home runs: one by Abi Colon, another by Kayla Groen.
Game 3: Hope 5, Trine 4 (9 innings)
After being suspended in the eighth inning due to darkness, top-seeded Trine and Hope returned to the field to start Saturday's action. Trine's Lexi Clark hit a leadoff double to start the ninth inning, but was left stranded. In the bottom of the ninth, Hope's Morgann Kanouse hit a leadoff home run to stay alive and eliminate the host Thunder.
For the game, Hope's Kaelin Callow went 4-for-5 with one double, two runs, and one RBI.
