On May 4, Hope College softball player Shay Pinhey was named a 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-American® Division III Softball Third Team honoree, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
On the field, Pinhey batted leadoff this season and recorded a .362 batting average. Primarily a designated player in Hope's lineup, Pinhey finished with 34 runs scored and 29 runs batted in. Pinhey made the All-MIAA First Team in 2019.
Pinhey graduated from Hope this month. The softball standout majored in engineering and minored in mathematics with a concentration in biomedical/biomechanical engineering. Pinhey's GPA was 3.62 after the fall semester.
The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division III Academic AllAmerica® teams. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
