The Adrian College men’s track and field team did not compete last week due to weather. The Don Kleinow Invitational hosted by Siena Heights was cancelled due to heavy rain and high winds. AC is back in action this week with the Gina Relays, a three-day event hosted by Hillsdale College.

Annorat was joined on the relay by Cullen Cox, Markeese Boyd and Riley Barrett. Kiehl Smith also had a good day, winning the 1,500 meters, helping the 4x400 relay to first place and finishing second in the 800. Kaylen Brandon also finished first on the track, winning the steeplechase.

Calvin

Calvin senior Brendan VanHouten shattered his own school record in the hammer throw Friday afternoon at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University. VanHouten unleashed a throw of 193-3 in the hammer throw to shatter his previous school record of 183-9 set earlier this year. The throw was good for second place on Friday also vaulted VanHouten up to eighth on the NCAA III performance list. VanHouten was part of a powerful one-two punch for the Knights in the hammer throw as sophomore Bryce Reynolds was sixth with a career-best throw of 170-11. The throw was a career-best by more than eight feet for Reynolds and places him 42nd on the NCAA III performance list. The Knights had a strong weekend in the field events. Senior Lee Barents had a career-best throw of 22-8 in the long jump that was good for second place. He just missed a season-best in the triple jump with a leap of 42-3 1/4 that was good for fifth place. In the pole vault, junior Jonathan Walt was ninth (14-3 1/4). Simon Detmer, who has right side paralysis due to cerebral palsy, broke the National USA Adaptive Track and Field Under 20 age record for the 1,500m run while competing at the Al Owens Classic. Detmer ran in 4:51.04, breaking the previous record of 4:52.0.

Hope

Hope College's Justin Freeman (Holland, Mich.) led the way for the Flying Dutchmen this weekend at Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic, where the senior placed second out of 32 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.72. Freeman also anchored Hope's 4x100 meter relay team, which also placed second. Freeman was joined in the relay by teammates Korey Derr (Grand Rapids, Mich.), David Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.), and Adam Howard (Jacksonville, Ill.).
