Tselmeg Mendsaikhan came through at No. 6 singles and that lifted Albion College to a 5-4 victory over Alma College. Mendsaikhan split the first two sets with David Suidgeest, but he took a tiebreaker, 10-4, to claim the decisive point in the match. Patrick Smoker won the tiebreaker at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6) and Matt Czarnecki was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles. Czarnecki and Smoker worked together to win the No. 2 doubles match.
The men's tennis team dropped its first match of the year on Friday (Sept. 27), 5-4 to Albion. Winners for the Scots included junior Brandon Ralston (Cadillac, Mich.), sophomore Brendan Murdie (Novi, Mich.), and senior Brett Reuter (Armada, Mich.). Ralston and Murdie both made quick work of their opponents, winning 6-2, 6-1, while Reuter needed a tiebreaking third set to finish Toma Shngoo.
