Calvin split a pair of matches last week, falling to Spring Arbor 9-0 on Wednesday and then topping Albion 8-1 Friday in the conference opener for the Knights. In its win over Albion, Calvin (7-5) took all three doubles points and then won five of the six singles points. Sophomore Brandon Johnson picked up a win at No. 5 singles to improve to 8-3 in singles this season. Johnson leads the Calvin team in singles victories.
The Hope College men’s tennis team enjoyed a sunny afternoon outdoors and cruised to a 9-0 win against Olivet in its MIAA opener. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 5-7 overall by winning five singles matches and two doubles matches at VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts. The other two points came on forfeits. At No. 1 singles, senior Tim Roe (Bakersfield, Calif.) defeated Benjamin Borrow, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, senior Michael Kiley (Muskegon, Mich.) swept Tyler Nobel, 6-0, 6-0.
The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team lost 8-1 at Emory University in its only match of the week. Daniel Henry picked up Kalamazoo's only win at two singles, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.
