Around the MIAA (through April 7 matches)
The Adrian College men’s tennis team split a pair of matches last week, beating St. Francis (Ind.) at home on Wednesday and falling to MIAA foe Hope on the road on Friday. Adrian took two of the doubles matches against St. Francis, with the third one being decided with a tiebreaker that the Cougars won. AC then won five of the singles matches, including freshman Cameron Rafinski’s 6-0, 6-0 win at the five spot.
Josh McGarry (Macomb, Mich.) has won his last five singles matches (all in straight sets) and seven of his last eight…Robert Joerg (Fremont, Ohio) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles vs. Olivet.
The Scots dropped a 9-0 match to Calvin on Saturday for their first loss in their last four matches. Alma had won three straight meets by sweeps over Muskingum, Grace and Olivet.

The Hope College men's tennis team shut out another MIAA opponent on Friday by blanking host Adrian. Hope is now 2-0 in the league and 7-6 overall. At No. 1 singles, senior Mark VanderStoep (Holland, Mich.) defeated Nathan Waterbury, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, senior Tim Roe (Bakersfield, Calif.) downed Tanner Wilcox, 6-4, 6-3.
The Hornets began the week by sweeping MIAA opponents Calvin and Trine 9-0 and finished the week with a 7-2 loss to Case Western Reserve. Sophomore Tytus Metzler ended the week with a 3-0 record at three singles while winning two of three matches at two doubles with Zack Ray. Ian Yi won in straight sets over Calvin and Trine to improve to 11-3 at one singles. Yi also won all three one doubles matches with Daniel Henry. Kalamazoo will play four matches this week including three against MIAA opponents in Olivet, Alma, and Adrian.
The Olivet College men's tennis team had a busy week, playing three matches -- at Concordia and at home against Albion and Trine. The Comets lost all three matches.
The Thunder finished their week winning two of their three matches during the week, all against MIAA opponents. They started off picking up a win over Albion by the score of 6-3, then dropped a tough match to Kalamazoo before rebounding against Olivet. Junior Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind.) led the way for the team during the week finishing with two singles and doubles wins.
