Kalamazoo Captures MIAA Men's Tennis Championship

After securing at least a share of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title April 20, the Kalamazoo men's tennis team sealed a perfect MIAA season Wednesday with a 9-0 win over Alma.

Against the Scots, Kalamazoo did not lose a game in the three doubles matches and lost just four games throughout all six singles matches.

The Hornets (10-6, 7-0) dropped just one game in seven MIAA matches in 2019, which came in an 8-1 win over Hope April 18. The 2019 title is the 85th MIAA Championship for the Hornets, who were ranked No. 28 most recently by ITA.

With the victory and the unblemished MIAA season, Kalamazoo will be the top seed in the 2019 MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament May 2 & 4. The Hornets will host semifinal action Thursday, May 2; should Kalamazoo advance, they will also host the MIAA Tournament Championship match slated for Saturday, May 4.

Joining Kalamazoo in the four-team MIAA Tournament are Hope, Calvin, and Adrian. A complete bracket will be released later this week.
