Around the MIAA

No. 20 Albion

Gerardo Huidobro, a junior from Lima, Peru, was the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly at the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational on Sunday. He achieved a time of 1:53.62, while teammate Drew Fogel (Spring Lake, Mich.) was fourth at 1:54.56. Connor Robertson (Zeeland, Mich.) was second in the 200 individual medley (1:53.86) and third in the 200 backstroke (1:52.25) and 100 breaststroke…Justin Huttenlocher (Shelby Township, Mich.) was third in 1-meter diving with a personal-best score of 389.60.


Alma

The Scots fell to Olivet Nov. 24, 184-73. Freshman Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich.) finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.75. Sutton also had a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. 


No. 14 Calvin

Calvin men's swimming and diving picked up a 196-104 dual meet win over rival Hope Saturday afternoon. Julian Iturbe won the 1000 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Calvin won the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:35:32. The Knights placed first through third in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly and the 200 Breaststroke. Calvin is now 3-1 in dual meet competition.


Hope

Hope dropped a rivalry dual meet to Calvin in Grand Rapids on Saturday, 196-104. Three Flying Dutchmen were individual winners: freshman Gabe Boonstra (Hudsonville, Mich.) in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.03; junior Daniel Keith (Saline, Mich.), in the 200-yard backstroke clocking 1:55.79, and sophomore Kamaron Wilcox (Grand Rapids, Mich.) in 1-meter diving with a score of 247 points. Boonstra and Keith were also runners-up twice. Boonstra was second in the 50-yard freestyle (20.94) and 100-yard freestyle (46.22) while Keith placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.19) and 100-yard butterfly (53.28).


Kalamazoo

Did not compete.


Olivet

Olivet won 13 of 14 individual events and both relays to beat Alma, 184-73, in a MIAA dual meet Nov. 23 at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. Freshman Takato Timmerman won all three of his individual events – 100-yard breaststroke (59.66), 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.85) and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.13). Senior Eric Wood was also a triple winner – 200-yard freestyle (1:46.71), 50-yard freestyle (22.09) and 500-yard freestyle (4:56.19). Freshman Carter Moore took first-place in the 100-yard backstroke (58.68) and 100-yard freestyle (1:00.34). Other individual event swimming wins were by freshman Parker Brown in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.22), senior Zach Meharg in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.58) and freshman Jacob Ritter in the 100-yard butterfly (55.15). The 200-yard medley relay team of Meharg, Timmerman, Ritter and Wood touched first in 1:40.34. The 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Meharg, senior Tom Decker, junior Kolton Epplett and sophomore Cade Erickson finished first in 1:35.13. Senior Dalton Miner swept the diving events, as he scored 207.85 points on the one-meter and 201.15 points on the three-meter.
