Two first-half goals stood up for the Hope Colllege men's soccer team in a 2-1 nonleague win at North Central, Illinois on Friday in Chicago. The Flying Dutchmen raised their record to 3-1 overall.
Senior forward David Porte of Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan HS), snapped a 1-1 with 2 minutes, 33 seconds before halftime. Porte's second goal of the season was unassisted.
Hope drew even with North Central (1-2) in the 33rd minute.
Freshman back Steve Binnig of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (North Allegheny HS), headed in his first collegiate goal off an assist from junior midfielder Alex Lindsey of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS).
Senior goalie Sam Barthel of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Waukesha HS), made four saves for the win
Hope returns to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. Central with a match at Aurora, Illinois.
