Around the MIAA (Through Sept. 29 results)
The Bulldogs recently competed in two MIAA Jamboree events to finish in third place at Adrian on Sept. 28 and sixth at Kalamazoo two days later…with the former, Adrian established season bests for tournament finish and lowest score (301)… Sophomore Jackson Tellerico tied his career-low of 73 for a fifth-place tie overall out of 50 golfers, setting the tone for the Bulldogs who saw six student-athletes shoot in the 70s and record three top-20 finishes…Freshman Trevor Benoit (74, T-8th), junior Brett McGugan (76, T-17th) and senior Nolan Duda (78, T-24th) also shined on their home course on Saturday…at the MIAA Jamboree#4, junior Hayden Winch shot a season's best 73—just a single stroke off the medalist lead –to pace AC.
Josh Ohneck (Trenton, Mich.) turned in his season-best score (78) in the MIAA Jamboree at Adrian Sept. 28.
Freshman Andrew Curran (Byron Center, Mich.) and senior Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich.) led the men's golf team to a score of 315 in the third MIAA Jamboree on Saturday (Sept. 28). Both players shot a 75 with Eli Pinter (Muskegon, Mich.) coming in just behind them with a 78. Senior Luke Lamoreaux (Sterling Heights, Mich.) posted a score of 87 and sophomore JP McDonald (Jackson, Mich.) rounded out the team with a 90. The Scots sit in seventh place in the MIAA standings with three rounds remaining.
Calvin took fifth at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian Saturday at the Lenawee Country Club. Calvin posted a team score of 307 strokes. Junior Sam Holland led Calvin with a round of 73 that was good for a tie for fifth place individually.
Freshman Seth Almquist carded a two-under 70 to take second place individually while the Flying Dutchmen shot a 297 to take second place collectively at the third MIAA Jamboree at Lenawee Country Club in Adrian, Michigan on Saturday. Trine University won the event with a 286 with Cameron Ruge of the Thunder earning medalist honors by shooting a three-under 69. After three MIAA Jamborees, Coach Scott Lokers' Flying Dutchmen currently have a solid hold on second place in the league standings with 910 strokes. Other Hope scorers on Saturday include freshman Drew Dykens of Holland (West Ottawa HS) with 75; senior Daniel Settecerri of Bloomfield Hills (Bloomfield HS) and freshman Jack Crawford of Carmel, Ind. (Carmel HS) each with 76; and, junior Luke Tapani of Wayzata, Minn. (Providence Academy) with a 79.
The Hornets placed fourth at the lone MIAA Jamboree of the week which was hosted by Adrian at Lenawee last Saturday. Kalamazoo shot 302 as a team and was just one stroke behind Adrian for third place. Jackson Jones and Mathew Holmes-Hackerd led the Hornets and each tie for eighth overall with rounds of 74. Parker Pickell carded a 76 while Zach Colburn shot a 78. The Hornets host the final MIAA Jamboree at Kalamazoo Country Club before traveling to East Lansing for the MIAA Fall Final at Forest Akers West.
Olivet started the week with a fifth-place finish Wednesday at the Lourdes University Invitational and ended the week with an eighth-place finish Saturday at the MIAA Jamboree #3. Freshman Kurtis Wolfram had Olivet's best round at the Lourdes Invitational with an 80 to share eighth-place in the player standings. Junior Nicholas Hoffman posted Olivet's best score at the MIAA Jamboree with an 82 (42-40).
