Around the MIAA
The Adrian College men's basketball team finished the week 2-0 with two road wins against Kalamazoo and Trine. Adrian defeated Kalamazoo 92-83 and were led by sophomore Trey Helinski who finished the game with 23 points and seven made three-pointers. Adrian broke a school record for most made three-pointers in a single game with 17. The Bulldogs then defeated Trine on the road 69-62 and were led by Jeremy Kalonji who finished with 23. Jordan Harris added 18 points in the effort.
Albion suffered their first MIAA setback of the season in a seesaw contest with Alma Feb. 8, 78-74. In a game that featured 22 lead changes and 28 ties, Jamezell Davis, Jr. and Caden Ebeling each registered 23 points, with Ebeling notching a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Despite the loss, Albion maintains a two-game advantage in the MIAA standings.
The Scots took down No. 24 Albion Feb. 8, 78-74. Kyle Woodruff tied a season-high with 22 points off the bench on 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line. Ryan Stevens had 14 points, three assists and two rebounds and made six free throws. Cole Kleiver posted 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Brandon Rake went for 10 points and nine boards. In a 91-78 setback to Trine Feb. 5, Kleiver poured in a career-high 36 points on 12-of-21 shooting and 7-of-13 from three.
Calvin went 2-0 this past week with wins over Olivet and rival Hope. The Knights defeated Olivet with a score of 79-53 and took down Hope on the road with a score of 84-59. Senior Derrick DeVries had himself a great week with a total of 59 points, 24 rebounds, 9 assists and was 16-19 from the free throw line. He had 35 points against Hope while senior teammate Tony DeWitte had 16 points in the win as well.
Hope lost at Albion, 76-68, on Wednesday and at home to Calvin, 84-59, on Saturday. Sophomore guard Tyler George scored a team-high 21 points against Albion. Junior forward Preston Granger had a team-best 17 points vs. Calvin.

Olivet lost two MIAA games last week, falling to Calvin (79-53) on Wednesday night and Kalamazoo (96-80) on Saturday afternoon. Against Calvin, freshman Britton Angell scored a team-high 15 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the free throw line. Freshman Noah Wiswary came off the bench to score 13 points, and junior Eddie Thigpen finished with 10 points. Against Kalamazoo, Thigpen made 8-of-10 baskets for a team-leading 17 points. Junior Chris Martin scored 16 points. Junior Delbert Redfield contributed 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Junior Jared Long grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Split the week's games with a win against Alma...four players averaged 10 or more points during the week with Maurice Hunter averaging a team-best 17.5 ppg...Marcus Winters was second with 16.0 ppg and also averaged 8.5 rpg.
