Four MIAA baseball Players Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

FREELAND, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) had four baseball student-athletes selected as 2020 Academic All-District recipients by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Gunner Rainey of Adrian College, Riley Stesiak of Albion College, Chase Coleman of Kalamazoo College, and Riley Bennet of Olivet College, have been chosen by a vote of CoSIDA members from district six.

A student-athlete's performances both in the classroom and in the competitive arena are taken into account for consideration for the honor. To be eligible for Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 (on 4.00 scale), have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Due to the shortened 2020 spring season, this year's award is based primarily on career statistics.

On the field, he has been a four-year starting contributor for the Bulldogs, his first two seasons in the outfield, before playing the last two seasons behind the plate. Rainey is a two-time All-MIAA including the 2019 MIAA Position Player of the Year.

The senior outfielder from South Bend, Ind., Riley Stesiak carries a 3.74 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. Stesiak is a .314 career hitter with a .529 slugging percentage,  He has 32 career doubles, four career triples, and fourteen career home runs while also stealing 26 bases in 32 attempts.

The junior infielder from Fenton, Mich., Chase Coselman, carries a 3.60 cumulative grade point average as a business major. Coselman is a .359 career hitter with a .495 slugging percentage. He has 22 career doubles, four career triples, and three career home runs while also stealing 14 bases in 17 attempts.

Senior Riley Bennett from Howell, Mich., is an insurance and risk management major with a 3.68 cumulative grade point average. Bennett started all 91 games of his Comet career at shortstop. He finished with a .310 batting average to go along with 21 doubles, three triples, and five home runs for a .437 slugging percentage.

Student-athletes named to the all-district team will be on the ballot for voters of academic all-americans. These voting results will be announced on June 8-11.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors
