MIAA Athletes of the Week - March 16, 2020
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the 9 individual student-athletes as its Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on March 15, 2020. We regret that due to the cancellation of all spring sports for the MIAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the final Athlete of the Week for 2020.
 
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition and selected by the MIAA Conference Office.
 
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition. 

MIAA Baseball Position Athlete of the Week

Logan Sella, Olivet
Junior, 3rd Base
Essexville, Mich.

Logan Sella posted a .444 batting average (4-for-9) in three games last week at the RussMatt Invitational. One of the hits was a triple to give him a .667 slugging percentage. Sella drove in five runs, including three in a 10-6 win over Becker (Mass.) College.

 

MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Matt Rehfeldt, Olivet
Senior, Pitcher
Peotone, Ill.

Matt Rehfeldt made three appearances on the mound and earned saves in two games at the RussMatt Invitational. He threw one and two-thirds innings, with two strikeouts in a 10-6 win over Becker. Rehfeldt tossed the final two innings while striking out three in a 3-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University. He did not walk a batter in either game.


MIAA Softball Position Athlete of the Week

Kelsey Keilman, Saint Mary's
Senior, Outfield
South Bend, Ind.

Kelsey Keilman posted a .409 batting average with a .552 on-base percentage and a .682 slugging percentage to lead the Belles in Florida. She had eight RBI, five runs scored, five walks, and was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts on the week. The senior added a pair of doubles and two triples from the lead-off slot to move into a tie for fifth place all-time in career triples.
 

MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Mandi Hettinger, Saint Mary's
Sophomore, Pitcher
Winamac, Ind.

Mandi Hettinger collected three wins with three complete-game efforts, two shutouts, and a save in the pitching circle. The sophomore tallied a 1.93 earned run average on the week over 36.1 innings of work in eight pitching appearances. She helped her own cause by scoring the only run in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 1-0 victory over St. Scholastica.

MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Megan Davy, Saint Mary's 
Junior 
Morris, Ill.

Megan Davy went 4-2 last week at the number one singles and number one doubles positions for the Belles in Florida. She dropped just three combined games in straight-set singles wins against Illinois Wesleyan and Franciscan, and she and doubles partner Alyssa Gulli won by a combined 16-3 margin against those same two teams.


MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week

Ethan Krupp, Adrian
Freshman, Goalie
Rossford, Ohio.

Ethan Krupp made a career-high 13 saves in a big win for the Bulldogs to earn his first collegiate victory at home against Heidelberg. Eight of those saves came in the 2nd half allowing the Bulldogs to bolster their lead and not look back with a final score of 15-8.

 

MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Chris French, Adrian
Sophomore, Attacker
Lake Orion, Mich.

Chris French scored a game-high 9 points on 6 goals and 3 assists in the win over Heidelberg with a score of 15-8. He added 3 ground balls and has a shooting percentage of over 50%. French finishes this shortened season tied for the MIAA lead in goals and 2nd in points. 

MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Emily Morthorst, Trine
Junior, Goalie
Fort Wayne, Ind.

Junior Emily Morthorst anchored the team in net as the Thunder picked up their first win of the season this past week. In her first contest of the week, she turned in a 14 save effort as the team came up just short of visiting Taylor. Then in the team’s second game of the week, Morthorst turned in a 12-save attempt as the team came away with a 16-8 victory over Wis.-La Crosse.

 

MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week

Chrystelle Lopez, Albion
Sophomore, Midfield
Van Nuys, Calif.

Chrystelle Lopez had a career-high 11 goals which also broke the school record. Lopez led the Brits offense with 16 shots and 13 shots on goal to beat Siena Heights 23-18. She contributed all over the field with 6 ground balls, 4 draw controls, and 1 caused turnover.
