Week #6 & 7 Wrap-Up includes Dec. 18-Jan. 2

• Albion went 2-2 over their final games of 2017, notching victories over Carnegie Mellon Dec. 29 and Muskingum Dec. 30 at the Bishop Classic/Hoops for Hope event. Evelyn Wischmeyer (So., G/F, Lake Orion, Mich.) scored 23 points in the title tilt against Muskingum on the way to tournament MVP honors.

• Calvin concluded non-conference play with a 2-1 run in December, capped by a 71-58 win over Otterbein Dec. 30. Ali Spayde (Sr., G, Lewis Center, Ohio) led the way with a game-best 23 points.

• #4/#5 Hope remained undefeated on the season with four wins over the past two weeks, and as a result, received one first-place vote in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. In their 72-63 win over Bluffton Dec. 30 to win the Bluffton Holiday Tournament championship, Madison Geers (Sr., F, Scottville, Mich.) tallied 19 points and earned tournament MVP accolades.

 

• #6/#9 Trine pushed their season-opening winning streak to 11 games until their 41-36 setback to #4 Amherst Dec. 29 at the D3hoops.com Classic. Prior to that loss, the Thunder posted a 52-46 win over UW-Stout Dec. 28, fueled by a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds by Hayley Martin (Sr., F, Auburn, Ind.).

• Earning MIAA Athlete of the Week honors for Dec. 26 was:

In the Jan. 2 release of the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, Hope gained one first-place vote as one of nine teams that remain undefeated in 2017-18 to move up to No. 5 overall; Trine's loss to now No. 1-ranked Amherst dropped the Thunder to No. 9 nationally.

In the Dec. 20 release of the WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, Hope and Trine remained fourth and sixth, respectively.
