Kiehl Smith, a junior from Jonesville, Mich., finished fourth in the Detroit Mercy Invitational last Saturday. He completed the four-mile course in 20:34.2. He trailed two runners from Detroit Mercy and one unattached athlete...Albion's second and third runners (Trey Cucuro and Andrew Wittland) were separated by seven seconds at the finish. Cucuro was 14th (21:10) and Wittland was 16th (21:17.3).
The Alma College men's cross country team finished in 20th of 25 teams at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 8) in their second meet of the season. Justin Jones (Cedar Springs, Mich./Cedar Springs) finished in 27:17.5, leading the Scots again this week and taking 83rd place overall.
Calvin won the Knights Invite for the fifth straight year with 56 points, 90 points ahead of second place finishers Saginaw Valley. Calvin finished three runners in the top ten to lead the Knights to victory. Tyler Johnson 25:25.7 came in fifth, Jonathan Ellis 25:32.0 took eighth, and Justin Varineau 25:32.0 took ninth.
The Hope College men's cross country team will begin their 2018 campaign Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Kalamazoo College men's cross country team finished 23rd at the Calvin Knight Invite on Saturday. Jackson Kelly led Kalamazoo with a time of 27:34 to finish 127th overall in the 8k event. Caleb Patton posted Kalamazoo's second best time of 30:30.
The Olivet College men's cross country team ran at the 2018 Calvin College Knight Invite at the Gainey Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids. The Comet men finished in 22nd place; sophomore Kyle Markley was the top Olivet finisher, as he completed the 8K race in 27:15.1.
