Around the MIAA

Adrian (8-8-1, 5-2-0)

The Adrian College men’s soccer team advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship last week and lost in the final to Calvin, 2-1. The Bulldogs tied with Trine 1-1 in the semifinal Oct. 30, but advanced on penalty kicks 4-3. Defender Austin Andres scored in the tie with Trine and fellow defender Justin Tobin scored Adrian’s lone goal against Calvin. The Bulldogs finished the year 8-8-1 and advanced to the conference tournament final for the second straight year.

No. 4/1 Calvin (17-1-0, 7-0-0)

The Knights defeated Hope College in the MIAA Semifinal Oct. 30, 5-0. Seniors Bobby McCaw and Jacob Witte led the team with two goals each, while Chris Morrish had four saves and recorded his eighth shutout of the season Calvin then defeated Adrian College Nov. 3, 2-1, to win the MIAA Championship. McCaw scored first and recorded his 19th goal of the season, while Lucas Albrecht had the winning goal for the Knights. Calvin will next take on Greenville in the First Round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.


NR/RV Hope (14-3-1, 4-2-1)

The Flying Dutchmen lost to nationally-ranked Calvin College 5-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament. The Flying Dutchmen finish head coach Dave Brandt's first season with a 14-3-1 overall record that included two losses to Calvin. Goalie Blair McCormick (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) made three saves.
