Around the MIAA

Adrian (3-2, 0-0)

The Adrian College men’s basketball team lost on the road to Capital in AC’s only game last week. Three Bulldogs hit double-digit points, with junior forward Jeremy Kalonji leading the way with 20 points – his second 20-point game of the year.


Albion (4-2, 0-0)

Albion challenged NCAA Division I Evansville of the Missouri Valley Conference last Saturday, trailing the Aces by just one point at halftime. The Aces achieved a double-digit lead for the first time midway through the second half…Jamezell Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich.) scored 11 of his team-high 15 points in the first half. MJ Barnes (Rowlett, Texas) chipped in with eight points, and Caden Ebeling (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) pulled down eight rebounds…The Britons are ranked among the top 16 teams in Division III for shooting (sixth in field goal percentage, 16th in 3-point field goal percentage…Up next for Albion is a Saturday home date against a University of Chicago squad that defeated Kalamazoo, 92-82, last Saturday and is 1-1 against nationally-ranked competition.

Alma (0-6, 0-0)

The men's basketball team fell to Wisconsin-Platteville and No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer in St. Louis, Mo. over the weekend. Junior Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich./Holly) was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Scots and averaging 16 points and 5.5 assists over two games. Juniors Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) and Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) had solid statistical outings, each posting new season-highs in points, assists and rebounds.


Calvin (4-4, 0-0)

Calvin picked up a 75-54 victory over Anderson University last Wednesday to stretch its winning streak to three games. Calvin placed three players in double-figures in scoring led by Tony DeWitte with 14 points while Derrick DeVries had 13 and Austin Bykerk 12. The Knights also received 26 bench points in the win. Calvin travels to the state of Wisconsin this weekend for a slate of games against nationally-ranked teams. The Knights (4-3) travel to 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (5-0) on Friday and then journey to seventh-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh (4-1) on Saturday.

Kalamazoo (2-5, 0-0)

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team dropped both of its contests this past week. The Hornets lost at Bluffton 95-92 on Wednesday before returning home and dropping their game against Chicago by a score of 82-72. Jarnard Smith led Kalamazoo offensively on the week by scoring 36 total points in the two games. Tre Humes scored a career high 21 points in the loss at Bluffton. The Hornets host Benedictine on Monday night and travel to Case Western Reserve on Saturday.


Olivet (2-3, 0-0)

A 12-3 run late in the first half helped the Olivet College men's basketball team defeat Carthage (Wis.) College 78-72 in a non-conference contest Nov. 28 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
