The curriculum offers a variety of courses in 53 major fields leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The college emphasizes a solid program in the liberal arts for its students. The 2007 Fiske Guide to Colleges, includes Hope as one of "the country's best and most interesting colleges and universities." noting that "This liberal arts college aims to provide its students a solid education and a deeper understanding of their purpose in life." The Kaplan Newsweek College Catalog included Hope as one of its "hidden treasures." U.S. News and World Report's 2007 America's Best Colleges ranked Hope among the nation's best national liberal arts colleges. The college has embarked on an ambitious campus development program which has included the construction of a new athletic spectator facility for basketball and volleyball. There have also been major renovations to the baseball and softball stadiums. Many Hope students combine excellence in the classroom with excellence on the athletic field. Since 1990, more than 100 students have been honored as Academic All-Americans or national Scholar Athletes. Since 1997 Hope has had seven students honored as NCAA Postgraduate Scholars. Hope College has been a member of the MIAA since 1926, winning 213 conference championships. Hope has won the MIAA All-Sports championship a league record 29 times. Approximately one-third of Hope's graduates enter graduate schools to pursue advanced training for careers in medicine, science, business, education, economics, the humanities, psychology, and areas of the performing and fine arts.
